The Pixel Fund is generously supporting The Therapy Garden and its Green School. The Therapy Garden is a horticulture and education charity, that uses gardening to generate positive change. We work with adults and teenagers with mental health challenges, learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Our Green School specifically supports teenagers from both special educational needs and those from mainstream schools who are disengaged from education, giving them the opportunity to gain practical gardening skills, obtain a City & Guilds qualification in horticulture, and to improve their mental well-being through the power of gardening and time outside in the fresh air and peaceful surroundings.
The students we work with are some of the most vulnerable members of our society: They are often socially excluded from local communities because of circumstances, nature of vulnerability or available support systems. Our students are sometimes marginalised with limited opportunities to make new friends or interact fully in local life, often only interacting with those with similar circumstances and attitudes. Through attending Green School students gain in confidence, self-esteem, and their general well-being, through this hands-on learning and connecting with nature.
